Ryan Smith is the Director of Investments for Magic Johnson Enterprises, where he leads the Venture Capital practice for the basketball legend and business phenomenon. Ryan brings over 10 years of experience in investing at the intersection of profit and positive social impact to Magic Johnson Enterprises.
Magic Johnson Enterprises is a diversified holding company with assets under management exceeding one billion dollars. Its segments include sports and entertainment, financial services, and health care. The company employs a business philosophy of “doing well by doing good.”
Prior to joining Magic Johnson Enterprises, Ryan worked at Bronze Investments, where he invested in early stage technologies at the intersection of profit and positive social impact. Before Bronze, Ryan was a member of the founding team of IMB Development Corporation, a New York-based private equity firm focused on building large scale minority- and women-owned businesses.
Previously, Ryan served as the Ambassador to the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. In his role, he worked to improve the hospital's operational and financial profiles during the earliest days of the Affordable Care Act. Ryan began his career at Morgan Stanley.
In addition to his private sector activities, Ryan is a co-founder of Restoring Our Character (ROC), a not-for-profit organization in his hometown of Chicago. ROC focuses on introducing inner-city youth to various experiences, skills and opportunities that breed success and enable them to break the cycle of poverty. Ryan serves on the board of the Harlem Tech Fund, which aims to empower current Harlem residents with the tools they need to successfully remain in and transform their communities for the better.
Ryan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Howard University with a Bachelor's of Business Administration and received his M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
